Amateur Trojan Author Makes Mistake by Spamming out Faulty Code - 14/09/2005

IT experts have warned that a series of Trojan horses have been spammed out to millions of email addresses around the world.

Although these Trojan horses are now accounting for over 25% of spam emails currently being received, users are being informed that thankfully the Trojan horses are failing to successfully attack recipients' computers due to a bug in their code!!!

Currently it seems as though the Trojan horse is being used to attack computers in United States and United Kingdom, although numerous other countries in Europe, South America and Asia are reported to have been affected by the Trojan.
The spammed out email messages do not have any subject line, but they have the message text of "new price" with attachments of varying names including 09_price.zip, price_new.zip, and price2.zip. These ZIP files all contain files with the extension .CPL.

Once opened the .CPL files would drop another file onto their hard drive causing all information that the user has to be lost. Luckily for everyone, due to amateur errors in the author's code they have failed to run properly. And so although the Trojans whose variants include Troj/Dropper-BB, Troj/Dropper-BC, Troj/Dropper-BD and Troj/Dropper-BE were designed with malicious intentions, they can do no harm to computer users.

"This Trojan horse author has made an ass of himself by sending out this garbage," said Carole Theriault, security consultant at Sophos. "Though everyone is happy that he has failed to write functioning malicious code, he has still clogged inboxes the world over with this junk."

This problem can be combated using ArmourPlate. The ArmourPlate Anti Spam service works by scanning your company's email to stop spam before it reaches your computer network. Your company's email is filtered by our proprietary, highly sophisticated spam recognition engine, 'Robot 5', which will detect almost all spam and places it in an individual user's Spam Box, housed on the ArmourPlate system. Each email user can view their Spam Box via a Web browser.

By not having ArmourPlate Your company is at very real risk.

Using the ArmourPlate service will safeguard your company and save you money.
ArmourPlate is considerably more cost effective than tackling the spam and virus problem internally at your company.

Having spam and virus emails stopped at source by us saves you from investing in hardware, software and IT time, freeing up resources to focus on other issues.

No more spam. No more viruses. Simple!
