Bribery in your Email - 1st June 2006 |
The
password needed to retrieve files
encrypted by a Trojan horse
has been found. The Trojan-
dubbed
Arhiveus-A
takes files from infected parts of ' 'My Documents' folders and encrypts
them.
The user is then informed that they will not be able
to recover their files as they have been encrypted. They are then told to
buy from an online drug store, to be issued with a password to gain access
again to their files.
However, anti-virus analysts at Sophos were able to
disassemble the Arhiveus Trojan and discover that the password need was:
"mf2lro8sw03ufvnsq034jfowr18f3cszc20vmw".
Attacks such as this are called ‘ransomware attacks’,
where files are taking as ransom in order for the virus writer to make
money.
A similar virus took hold of files in March 2006,
demanding $300 for the ‘safe return’ of them.
Problems such as this can be resolved by having a
safe and secure system in place such as ArmourPlate Anti-Virus and
Anti-Spam Services.
ArmourPlate Anti-Virus service works by scanning your company's email, so
stopping email-borne computer viruses before they reach your computer
