American
Internet Service Provider CIS Internet Services has won a suit
filed against spammer James McCalla, 26. McCalla allegedly
bombarded CIS subscribers with some 280 million unsolicited
spam messages offering mortgages, debt consolidation services,
pornographic and gambling websites.
Robert W. Kramer, owner of Iowa - based CIS Internet Services was awarded 11
billion dollars by a US District Court on the 23rd December.
Kramer said he had little hope of seeing any of the reward, he claimed the ruling
as a victory for 'every email user and every responsible
Internet Service Provider'.
Spam continues to threaten the email productivity and data security of
businesses worldwide. Spam is recognised as a huge time waster
and has direct business costs.
In the UK Nigel Roberts was the first person to win a court judgement over a
company's breach of the UK's anti-spam law late last year. His
success has not only received widespread media coverage but is
encouraging others to do the same.
Media Logistics (UK) Ltd. a marketing firm based in Falkirk, Scotland was sued
by Roberts for sending him unsolicited emails about contract
car hire and fax broadcasting businesses. The company has
suffered the consequences of bad publicity by the media.
Unfortunately those small victories are not slowing the increase in spam
that is flooding business mail boxes.
An answer to protect against spam is Armourplate, which blocks spam before
it gets to an organisation's network. ArmourPlate uses several
well respected software suites and its own proprietary
technology that detects and stops spam.
In short, ArmourPlate works alongside your existing systems to safeguard
your company's internal network, preventing it from malicious
virus and
spam email attacks that can block your systems and cause costly
downtime. By both in-bound and out-bound scanning, your
business reputation with your staff, customers, partners and
peers is protected.
